Cedar Creek Lake

Cedar Creek Reservoir was constructed between 1961 and 1965. Nestled in the woodlands of East Texas, the lake is located in Kaufman and Henderson counties , has a surface area of 32,873 acres, has maximum dimensions of 8.5 miles wide and 18 miles long, with a shoreline of approximately 220.26 miles.

Many of Cedar Creek Lake 's residents are commuters, traveling to the Dallas area to work. They proclaim the hundred mile round trip well worth the serenity they experience upon returning home to the lake at the end of the work day. The shoreline of Cedar Creek Lake is also a popular spot for “week-enders” who have purchased vacation/week-end homes that they can enjoy year round.

Cedar Creek Lake offers diverse lodging, dining, retail, RV sites and water sports, all located on or near the shoreline of beautiful Cedar Creek Lake . The towns of Kemp, Seven Points, Tool, Trinidad, Malakoff, Star Harbor , Caney City , Log Cabin, Payne Springs, Enchanted Oaks, Gun Barrel City , Mabank and Eustace all surround the lake. The various towns are able to maintain their own identities and local governments, while having the distinction of being part of the Cedar Creek Lake community. Great festivals, local celebrations with a friendly hometown atmosphere, fishing, boating and golf are ongoing throughout the year.

Area attractions such as First Monday, in Canton, Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center in Athens , and Purtis Creek State Park in Eustace are all short drives from Cedar Creek Lake.

Gun Barrel City

Gun Barrel City is located in the heart of Cedar Creek Lake. Incorporated in 1969, Gun Barrel City has grown from a small rural community with a few subdivisions on Cedar Creek Lake to a thriving city with a population of about 6,000 people and is the second
largest city in Henderson County.

Main Street in Gun Barrel City sees a normal winter traffic flow of more than 18,000 cars per day. This number increases dramatically in the spring, summer and fall when the
“weekender” and visitor population bring thousands more into the area to enjoy the lake.

In 2001, Gun Barrel City’s 150 retail merchants produced $85,358,285 in taxable retail sales. Where taxable retail sales are concerned, the City ranks 15th of 115 Texas cities with populations of between 5,000 and 10,000.
